About This Spot

Stepping into Gyoza Grill, you're greeted by a warm, inviting vibe that blends the bustling energy of Richmond with a hint of authentic Japanese charm. The restaurant strikes a comfortable balance between a casual local eatery and a place that feels thoughtfully curated, where every detail—from the welcoming smiles at the door to the soft hum of conversation—invites you to settle in and savor the moment.

The atmosphere here unfolds at an easy, friendly pace. It’s the kind of spot where quick dinners mesh smoothly with relaxed evenings among friends, where the clinking of glasses and soft laughter meld seamlessly with the quiet confidence of a menu that honors tradition without taking itself too seriously. Seating is cozy but unpretentious, offering spots to appreciate both the hum of the room and quieter corners for more intimate gatherings.

Gyoza Grill’s heart lies in its simple, satisfying fare. The kitchen delivers a variety of dishes that feel freshly made, each bite resonating with familiar Japanese flavors but with a few playful twists that keep things lively. From the juicy, golden-browned gyoza to thoughtfully prepared sushi and an array of skewers that invite easy sharing, every plate seems designed to foster connection—whether over a shared ramen bowl or a hearty donburi. Complementing the food, a thoughtfully curated beverage selection, including a surprisingly memorable matcha-infused IPA, adds a modern layer to the experience.

What stands out here is not just the food but the genuine sense of care woven throughout the visit. Friendly staff often move with attentive ease, helping guests navigate the menu and offering touches like complimentary green tea that gently root the experience in tradition. It’s clear this isn’t just another spot to eat, but rather a small community hub where familiar flavors and approachable hospitality meet.

Whether you’re passing through for a quick fix of your gyoza craving or lingering on a weekend evening to explore the rotating specials and vibrant sake list, Gyoza Grill offers a welcoming pause in the busy Richmond stretch—an unpretentious corner where the joy of Japanese food feels refreshingly accessible, honest, and quietly memorable.

Very nice waiters. The gyoza and chicken are good but I don’t recommend the beef hot pot. It didn’t look like a hot pot at all — more like a bowl of soup. Also, I was really disappointed because the noodles were completely overcooked and mushy. I couldn’t even pick them up with chopsticks and had to use a spoon instead. So cant be bother to take a picture of it.

If you're on the hunt for great Japanese food without breaking the bank, this place is a gem! The menu is packed with delicious options that hit all the right notes. Everything is freshly made and bursting with flavour, which is honestly impressive for the price. And as if that wasn’t enough, they offer a free sake tasting with your meal! It’s a fantastic touch that makes the experience feel even more special. The staff are friendly, making sure you feel welcome from the moment you step in. Plus, the cosy atmosphere is perfect for a casual meal. For the price, you honestly can't do better. It's the ideal spot for a quick bite or a laid-back dinner. Highly recommend it to anyone craving affordable and tasty Japanese food!

Gyoza Grill is a great Japanese restaurant with some classic Japanese food from Gyoza, Ramen, Sushi rolls, taiyaki, takoyaki and more. Great quick service that is very friendly and helpful, food is amazing value and good serving sizes with plenty of rotating specials. Good seating inside and out and a huge sake list too. Great little find for a quick dinner or relaxed dinner with friends

This place has become my new favourite. The food selection is broad and the prices are very reasonable. The service is fast. They have many options of all day happy our. We tried their chicken (with mayo and teriyaki hot) the pork and veggy gyoza that was served on a sizzling plate for extra crispness and the sushi rolls. Everything was well prepared and served.

I visited there to celebrate sake day. I had a glass of sake and gyoza(all you can eat), which were delicious. I met some Japanese staff and everyone was friendly who provided great service. They have great selections of drinks. I enjoyed free tasting. Highly recommended.

The food was very good (おいしかつたです!) and all the staff was very kind and gentle! We have been offered the dessert too with the waitress bringing to the table daifuku and matcha cake. PS during our dinner the guy from the next door place (Sake Ginza) offered us 4 different types of sake as a tasting and a final one during the dessert. Super kind and gentle! Recommended!!!!
